Welsh singer-songwriter and actress Kizzy Crawford has released her latest single “Golden Brown”, which CelebMix are premiering.
The folk-driven song, with a touch of jazz, is lyrically about prejudice, as Kizzy sings to her younger self and tells her she should be proud of her distinct features, and to not let what anyone else says get to her.
“Golden Brown is my grown up self-talking to that little girl who felt so confused and alone telling her to be proud of her differences; her brown skin, her big curly hair, her voice, her whole self and to not listen to the words of bullies and ignorant people,” Kizzy revealed.
The single is the latest to be taken from the singer, who is gearing up to release her debut album, “The Way I Dream”, in October.
Kizzy became interested in music as a teenager, after buying her first guitar at the age of 13, which allowed her to come up with her own riffs and melodies. She wrote her first song at the age of 14.
Now 22, she released her debut single, “Progression”, in the summer of 2018, which was acclaimed by BBC Radio 2, before releasing “Waiting Game”, which was playlisted by Mi-Soul Radio and BBC Radio 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, who included the track in his “BBC Introducing” selection.
Kizzy’s music is a combination of folk, soul, jazz and pop, and she has been compared to fellow British musicians Corinne Bailey Rae, Lianne La Havas and Laura Mvula.
Singing asides, Kizzy is also an actress, having starred in the BBC drama series “Keeping Up Faith” as the police constable Emma Jones.
“Golden Brown” showcases a promising young talent, and is different to anything else in the charts at the moment. We look forward to hearing more Kizzy!
