Actress and director Mariska Hargitay is the daughter of Hollywood icon Jayne Mansfield and bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay. She got her start on television on the 1986 drama series Downtown, but it wasn't until 1999 that she landed her breakout role as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Mariska has gone on to appear as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Trial By Jury, Chicago P.D., Saturday Night Live, and Law & Order: Organized Crimes, the spinoff starring her former partner, Elliot Stabler. She has also won an Emmy and Golden Globe award for the role.
In 2004, Mariska married fellow actor Peter Hermann, who she met on the set of Law & Order: SVU. In 2006, the couple welcomed their son, August, and in 2011, they adopted their daughter, Amaya, and their second son Andrew.
Along with acting, Mariska is the founder of the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization that provides support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
